Tennyson Insurance has launched a new online service, designed specifically for the not-for-profit sector. Underwritten by Zurich, you can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with high quality insurance while also enjoying the benefits of online pricing.
Responding to two key issues – the expense of policies for small charities and the lack of available, straightforward advice – Tennyson Insurance online service will provide:
- A £75 p.a. entry level policy, with £5M Public Liability, for small volunteer-only groups
- Up to £1,000 p.a. policies for larger and more complex groups (for example you have employees or significant contents that require cover) – all at discounted online prices.
- Straightforward, plain English advice, both written and in video tutorials, to help you understand the level of cover you need quickly and easily.
If you are paying more than £1,500 for your policy then you could benefit from talking to one of our consultants. To find out more call them on 08450 822 446 or visit the site below:

“Defining Roles – how to get the right balance between volunteers and staff”.
7th April 2010, 10.00-16.00, Bristol city centre
This interactive session will bring together professionals from the TUC, Peninsula and Citizens Advice Bureau who will speak about their work with volunteers. You will hear how each organisation manages the involvement of volunteers, and avoids the conflicts that can occur between paid staff and volunteers.
With funding cuts imminent after the forthcoming general election, this event will shed light on the importance of procedures and policies ensuring that both volunteers and paid staff are managed according to good practice. Guidance will also be provided on how to avoid claims of job substitution, whereby volunteers are introduced into a workplace to replace paid staff.
The agenda has been developed using feedback from Volunteering England members on areas of interest.
Speakers:
- Rachael McIlroy, Public Services Policy Officer, Trades Union Congress
- Ceri Davies, Employment Law and Health and Safety Presenter, Peninsula
- Julia Dennis, Volunteering Development Manager, Citizens Advice Bureau
Who should attend:
- Volunteer managers/coordinators
- HR managers, staff or volunteers who are responsible for HR or volunteer management
Fees:
Volunteering England members benefit from preferential rates.
- £75 for members (excluding VAT)
- £99 for non members (excluding VAT)

18th February saw our 500th registered user. Over 200 NAVCA Local Support and Development Organisations (LSDOs) have registered and are beginning to distribute Charity Builder as a membership benefit. CBUK will help local charities and community groups to comply with Employment and Health and Safety legislation, and promoting best practice in core administrative areas will in turn help groups to access funding.
The Charity Builder team continues to support groups with demonstrations and presentations of the service at member events, including recent attendance of the Supporting Volunteers Day at Billingshurst, West Sussex. We’ll also be attending the forthcoming West Sussex External Funding Forum in March.

We value your thoughts about the service as you become familiar with its interactive tools and information.
You can also now follow CBUK on twitter: http://twitter.com/CharityBuilder. This will be a great way of sharing your experience of using CBUK with other local charities and community groups.
